Sinful Sunday Monthly Prompt May 2016

The prompt for 1st May 2016 is; Mirrors

At some point we will do reflections but for this one I want you to focus on mirrors only. They can be invaluable when it comes to taking a self portrait as they can allow you to create a depth to your image that you can’t achieve if you just holding the camera, they are almost like a tripod hanging on the wall. However if you look at some of the examples below mirrors can offer more than just a reflection, they can frame an image or even become the image itself.

Vintage by Maria Opens Up. In this shot the mirror is part of the story of this image. Not only does it give us a glimpse of her reflection but it adds to the whole narrative of vintage and dressing up

A Closer Look by Penny for your Dirty Thoughts. This is such a clever image. The mirror actually plays tricks on us here, at first glance you think you are seeing what it between her legs but very quickly you realise that what you are actually seeing is the reflection of the rumpled bed-sheets, giving you a suggestion of what Penny is seeing in her side of the mirror.

Topless and Jeans by Steeled Snake. By standing your subject (or yourself) between the mirror and the camera you can create an image that lets the viewer see the same person from different angles. I think this is a perfect example of that. We can see both the side view and the front view and by playing with the focus point in the image the eye is led right into the depths of the reflection.

D by Alexei Aven. This is another example of that. Without the mirror this would still be a beautiful shot but the addition of the small mirror totally works and allows us a glimpse of this beautiful model’s back.

Kiss me Deadly by Molly’s Daily Kiss. Yes one by me. If you search for Mirror on my blog you will see it is something I have played with quite a bit but I think this is one of my favourites.

The prompt is published here on the site mid month, which will give people approximately 2 weeks to work on their idea before linking in, on the 1st weekend of the month. The prompt is completely optional and you can link in as normal on that weekend whether you have used the prompt or not. The usual Sinful Sunday rules will, of course, apply. Please make sure you have read them recently so that you are fully aware of what is and is not allowed.

As always interpret as you wish, or disregard altogether and do you own thing.

Have your post ready to go for Sunday 1st May 2016. Any questions or queries can be posted in the comments below, you can email me [email protected] or tweet me @mollysdailykiss
