Question Time

10th August 2013

Hello Sinful Sundayers,  I have a question for you. It is slightly long winded….

It seems that the competition on Sinful Sunday are  very popular however despite the fact that I love doing them I just can not afford to increase how many there are a year. I rely on my lovely sponsors for prizes but I still have to pay to ship those prizes out to the winner. Have you tried posting any packages internationally lately? The cost is…. significant, shall we say.

The competitions will continue (I aim to do 4 or sometimes 5 a year) however I was wondering if maybe people might be interested in an optional prompt once a month. I would publish the prompt a couple of weeks before hand to give people time to work on their ideas with a date for when it would be prompt week. (I am thinking that the first Sunday of the month would work) There would be no obligation to use the prompt and of course Sinful Sunday would still continue on it’s normal weekly basis.

The aim of Sinful Sunday has always been to encourage people to get creative and have fun with their cameras, developing not only their skill and art but also a whole community of people who enjoy sharing and seeing each others work, in that regard I have left it up to you guys to express that pretty much how you see fit, apart from the competitions but I am wondering if a monthly prompt might be something you would all enjoy. I want to hear your thoughts on this. I will go with what appears to be the majority opinion on the matter, after all I might run and edit Sinful Sunday but it is a community venture, so, long story short…

Would you like/enjoy a optional prompt week once a month on Sinful Sunday?

I love the idea of a monthly prompt! I really like how you challenge us to get out of our comfort zone and explore new things.

On the contest, I know I for one would be happy to pay the shipping of my prize. I know the high cost can be a burden on your family.

    HUGS, lori

Oh no. i meant to keep typing on that last sentence. I wanted to say, that the comps are not suppose to be a burden. We love you guys and would never want to see that happen to you.

    Short answer: yes.

How much use of it we can make until we finally get a decent camera is a different question. *g*

I would use the prompt. I enjoy using thrm on Wicked Wednesday. I’m also with Lori…I’m happy to cover shipping.

That sounds like a great idea. I love to see others interpretations of concepts. It gives an even deeper insight into personalities I feel.

    Molly,

I agree with the people here. A prompt would be a great thing to do, especially if it is non compulsory like Wicked Wednesday.

As for the postage, I think the solution is for the winners to chuck a few quid your way on posting. There is no reason why you should be out of pocket on the deal. I know there is a promotional aspect to it, but the cost of postage shouldn’t be of detriment to you and your family. I know a few quid doesn’t mean much but when multiplied by six or seven I would imagine it would add up quickly.

I would like the idea of a prompt as well. I do them for Wicked Wednesday already. It is a good way to break out of the comfort zone.

Also agree with the comments above. A monthly, optional prompt would be a good idea and could maybe even be decided by the guest judges. I’m very grateful for you (both) running the excellent Sinful Sunday and of course would also be happy to cover postage and packing.

  9. I totally agree with most here, but since John has expressed it very clearly, I want to “echo” his comment and say I feel exactly the same on both points 🙂

Thank you, every body, for your comments so far. Please do keep them coming….however I just wanted to be clear that I was not moaning about the cost of shipping (well OK maybe I was but only at the Post Office, not at you guys) I am happy to pay the cost, it is my idea after all, I was just trying to explain that is the reason I can not do the competitions more often. I don’t expect anyone to pay/contribute but thank you all for your lovely supportive offers.

    Molly,

    We’d happily cover shipping too.

Have you looked at myHermes. They’re a door to door pay as you go courier service that cover the UK and have very reasonable rates – generally way lower than the post office. We use them frequently (not affiliated with them).

  12. Add Mrs and I to the ones that like the prompt idea. I do like the free-form nature of Sinful Sunday, but sometimes it’s good to have a path to follow. 🙂

I would be happy to follow a prompt. I would also be happy as it is. Either way you go, I’m happy lol

I love the idea of a prompt. I don’t always contribute because I am left to my own devices as to what to post. A monthly prompt is very helpful in giving focus to a scattered soul. As Yummy said, I also like seeing how everyone interprets the same theme in such different and unique ways.

As for the postage issue, which I know you really weren’t asking about, I do think that winners could contribute a few quid for postage. It adds up for you when there are several prizes to be shipped to varied places, and for the winner paying some postage is way cheaper than the cost of ordering the item and having it shipped themselves.

I don’t do well with prompts but as long as it isn’t a requirement then it works for me.

  16. Molly,

I think the prompt is a great idea, sometimes I just can’t find inspiration so that would be awesome…

And thank you, for the competitions too!

yes yes yes yes yes- although i luv photos and sex and sinfulsunday etc etc i am severely lacking in IDEAS- in fact I was pondering this several times today, trying not to beat myself up and call myself uncreative due to a lack of ideas- but prompts well, PROMPT ideas!! so yes Molly definitely yes!

  18. SassyCat says:

I’ll continue to participate when I can or when i remember. A prompt is always nice. I will just have to keep the rules straight 😛

  19. I would probably ignore a prompt most of the time (as I tend to do with WW) but it’s great to have it there, sure – as long as it’s not mandatory!

And I add my voice to the internationals really happy to throw some money in the pot for shipping. We want to keep you happy, not grumbly 🙂

    xx Dee

  20. Jade says:

I don’t need competitions, although I have enjoyed participating when I have. I love prompts though! So yes, I would vote for a monthly prompt instead. 🙂
