Sinful Sunday Monthly Prompt March 2018
This months I am delighted to welcome another fabulous company as sponsors to the Sinful Sunday Monthly Prompt.
Crimson Princess are definitely new kids on the block when it comes to sex toy companies, but don’t let that put you off. I have been really impressed with there willingness to engage and support the sex blogging community and, maybe most importantly of all, listen to advice about stocking toys made from body safe materials. It is lovely that they have agreed to support Sinful Sunday. Companies like this really help me offset some of the cost of running this project so please, it really helps me out if you show them some support. Oh and if anyone wants to buy a me gift I REALLY want this flogger they are selling!
The prompt for 4th March 2018 is: Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is a guideline relating to image composition. The ‘rule’ states that an image should be imagined divided into 9 equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines and that the important aspects of the image, those that are the focus of the shot, should be placed along these lines or at the intersections. The justification for this technique is that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject. Despite this being a much preached about ‘rule’ it is one that I often break and so I would say don’t take this to heart as a rule but more a guideline to keep in mind when taking images. However for the purpose of this prompt you do need to take it heart and compose your image so that it fits the rule of thirds.
This image shows the rule of thirds perfectly. The horizon sits along the lower line and the tree sits at the intersection of the two lines.
Most cameras give you an option to display the rule of thirds grid on the screen when you are taking an image to help you with your composition. Even some camera phones have it as a setting now too. Likewise lots of photo editing packages will also allow you to overlay it while you edit to help you crop your image to fit the rule of thirds. One of the things I would suggest is taking your shot with the point of interest in the centre and then retake with the rule of thirds and it will help you to see how it changes an image. Below are some examples to help
Undoing by Molly’s Daily Kiss – If you imagine laying the grid over this image the horizontal line would pretty fall almost exactly down the line on my neck
Cabin Fever – By Exposing 40 – Again, image the grid and Tabitha’s legs (the real point of interest in the image fall perfect where the lines would intersect on the left of the image.
Peace by Love Hate Sex Cake – In this one she inhabits the top horizontal line and where her knee is bent creating that triangle is pretty much where the lines intersect.
NOTE – YOU DO NOT NEED TO OVERLAP THE GRID ON YOUR IMAGE THAT IS PURELY HERE FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES TO EXPLAIN THE RULES OF THIRDS
The prompt is published here on the site mid month, which will give people approximately 2 weeks to work on their idea before linking in, on the 1st weekend of the month. The prompt is completely optional and you can link in as normal on that weekend whether you have used the prompt or not. The usual Sinful Sunday rules will, of course, apply. Please make sure you have read them recently so that you are fully aware of what is and is not allowed.
As always interpret as you wish, or disregard altogether and do you own thing.
